The Cook and Other Treasures (DVD)
Directed by Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle and Harold Lloyd
Buster Keaton
Harold Lloyd
At the idyllic seaside destination of the Bull Pup Café, a chef (Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle) makes havoc in his own kitchen while the waitstaff (Buster Keaton) attends to the guests and tries to maintain order. When a customer begins harassing the beautiful cashier, the waitstaff can take it no more, dragging the chaos into the dining room. One of the finest and funniest of the Arbuckle and Keaton collaborations, THE COOK leads this collection in newly restored condition thanks to efforts from the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam.
Also included, A RECKLESS ROMEO (1917) sees Arbuckle play a flirtatious young man test the limits of his own marriage when he meets a beautiful girl at the park. When he later takes his wife and mother-in-law to the cinema, they're seated beside the girl's boyfriend and forced to watch a recording of Arbuckle's indiscretion! To date, Arbuckle’s "escape" from the movie houser remains one of the most iconic endings of any cinematic comedy.
Finally, Harold Lloyd’s hilarious short NUMBER, PLEASE? (1920) rounds out the collection courtesy of LarCas Productions.
