The Conspirators
Directed by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade
The real story of the failed attempt of an independence coup by a group of intellectuals and rich men during Brazil’s colonial days, from its beginning to the execution of Tiradentes. The Conspirators uses a strict periodpiece framework to reflect on the then-recent military coup and the censorship that followed it, breaking through the rigor of the historic text with the liberty of purposeful anachronisms.Story and dialogue inspired by historical materials and poems by Claudio Manuel da Costa,Tomas Antonio Gonzaga, Alvarenga Peixoto, and Cecilia Meireles.
