For many Israelis, the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 marked a grim turning point for their country. In the words of the commission set up to investigate the murder, "Israeli society [would] never be the same again. As a democracy, political assassination was not part of our culture." In the eyes of even more people, the murder ended all hope for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process through the Oslo Accords and altered the course of history. But, as Amos Gitai sets out to prove in his brave and provocative new film, Rabin's assassination was not just the act of one fanatic; it was the culmination of a hate campaign that emanated from the rabbis and public figures of Israel's far right.

Reviews

"(4 out of 5 Stars) Enlightening...Gitai is less concerned with getting bogged down in conspiracy theories and more interested in highlighting a culture of extremism that he believes still persists in Israel." -Dave Calhoun, Time Out NY

"A tough-minded, unflinching work of art, the first great film of 2016." -The Jewish Week

"I hope a lot of Americans see this film-for the warning it offers." -Thomas Friedman, The New York Times

"Deeply absorbing, intelligent...bold and declarative. Coming from an informed, engaged, insider perspective [it is] meticulously detailed, richly shot, engrossing. Vital." - Jessica Kiang, Indiewire

"Fascinating. Both a political thriller and a work of conscience." - Deborah Young, The Hollywood Reporter

"[A] must-see. Never less than eerily absorbing...still resonate powerfully today." -Kurt Brokaw, The Independent

"[Gitai's] done a remarkable job of relating this story in a gripping and innovative way." -Ralph Seliger, Jewish Currents

"★★★ ½. Few people have explored this self-perpetuating cycle of violence from as humanistic a perspective as Amos Gitai, an Israeli filmmaker of profound importance. Frequently horrifying and never less than absorbing, RABIN, THE LAST DAY is a meticulously observant portrait of a broken society." - Matt Fagerholm, RogerEbert.com

"Spellbinding filmmaking. History has never been so crucial to our survival." - Nina Rothe, The Huffington Post

"Agonizingly suspenseful." - Farran Smith Nehme, The New York Post
