Kino Lorber Releases Dukhtar on Blu-ray and DVD

New York, NY - July 25, 2016 - Kino Lorber is proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of DUKHTAR, a critically-acclaimed film by Afia Nathaniel that was a hit at international festivals and was Pakistan's Official Submission for Best Foreign Language Film to the 87th Academy Awards®.

The film tells the moving story of a mother, desperate to save her ten-year-old daughter from an arranged marriage to a dangerous tribal leader. Their harrowing escape takes them through the sweeping landscape of Pakistan where the human desire for love and freedom comes with a sometimes deadly price. Emotional performances and striking cinematography help to tell this thrilling yet poignant tale of a mother's struggle to give her daughter a better life.

Released to great critical acclaim, DUKHTAR won numerous festival awards, including the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Créteil International Women's Film Festival, the Jury Award for Best World Feature at the Sonoma International Film Festival, and both Best Director and Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the South Asian International Film Festival. In the mountains of Pakistan, a young mother's life takes an unexpected turn. Allah Rakhi (Samiya Mumtaz) kidnaps her ten-year-old daughter Zainrab (Saleha Aref) to save her from a child marriage to a tribal leader. Their escape is a damning loss of honor for the two families. A deadly hunt begins for them. Desperate for help, Allah Rakhi strikes an unlikely deal with Sohail (Mohib Mirza), a cynical ex-Mujahid truck driver, to take them to the city of Lahore.
