Kino Lorber Releases Miguel Gomes' Arabian Nights trilogy on Blu-ray and DVD

New York, NY - April 7, 2016 - Kino Lorber is proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of ARABIAN NIGHTS, the monumental film trilogy by acclaimed filmmaker Miguel Gomes (Tabu). Using One Thousand and One Nights as the basis for its structure, Gomes sets his film in contemporary Portugal and explores political and economic unrest through the lens of a stylized fantasy.

Released theatrically by Kino Lorber, ARABIAN NIGHTS opened at Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York before moving on to engagements in key national markets including Miami, Boston, and Seattle, among others. The film was an Official Selection of the Cannes, Toronto International and New York Film Festivals, and was Portugal's Official Entry, Best Foreign Language Film - 2016 Academy Awards.

This acclaimed, ambitious trilogy comes to Blu-ray and DVD on May 3, 2016 in a three-disc set, with a SRP of $49.95 for the Blu-ray edition and $39.95 for the DVD edition. Both are packed with bonus features including a booklet with a production diary and an essay by film critic Dennis Lim, a special video from the New York Film Festival: A Conversation with Miguel Gomes (courtesy of Film Society of Lincoln Center), and "Redemption" (2013), a short film by Miguel Gomes.

ARABIAN NIGHTS is a monumental and dazzlingly original three-part film by Miguel Gomes (Tabu) that uses the structure of One Thousand And One Nights in order to tell the story of contemporary Portugal. Gomes' Scheherazade tells fantastic tales both fictional and documentary, from talking roosters to everyday trials of the unemployed. Gomes waves a colorful, surreal, and politically potent palimpsest of a film that captures how the Great Recession has affected both our lives and our dreams.

Disc 1: The Restless One (125 minutes)
In which Scheherazade tells of the restlessness that befell the country, where people dream of mermaids and whales, and unemployment in spreading.

Disc 2: The Desolate One (132 minutes)
In which Scheherazade tells of how desolation invaded men: where a distressed judge will cry, a runaway murderer will wander through the land, and where the residents of a suburban tower block are charmed by a friendly dog, while surrounded by ghosts.

Disc 3: The Enchanted One (125 minutes)
In which Scheherazade doubts that she will still be able to tell stories to please the king, so she therefore escapes from the palace and travels the kingdom in search of pleasure and enchantment.
