Seni's Children
Directed by Philip Haas
Seni's Children
Seni lives with her family in Bignona, a village in the Ziguinchor region of Senegal. Working outside the local tradition of crafting pots and “useful” objects, Seni claims that through a “gift of God” she has been able to create thousands of magnificent creatures in the form of clay sculptures. Although the villagers don’t know quite what to make of Seni's art, the film follows her as she chases her creative urges, working with her husband to mold a menagerie of otherwordly creatures. SENI'S CHILDREN is a powerful and unique ode to pride and ingenuity, showing how creativity never discriminates between gender, class or country.
