Port of Shadows
Directed by Marcel Carné
Port of Shadows
Jean, a military deserter sick of the hand that life's dealt him, arrives by night at the port city of Le Havre, looking for a ship to get him out of France. His luck quickly changes when he comes upon a variety of helpful items and friends: civilian clothes, a passport, a little bit of coin, and cute little dog, to boot. Best of all, he meets an enticing young woman named Nelly, but his advances are halted by a number of her abusive male suitors. Jean decides to risk it all for her, but with the last ship for Venezuela leaving tonight, can either one of them truly be free?
