Ravishing and resourceful Carla Campbell (Gina Lollobrigida, Woman of Straw) sure knows how to make the best of things. Once a frightened young girl, she's transformed herself into one San Forino, Italy's leading citizens. And thanks to generous support checks from three American GIs she met during WWII; each of who thinks he's the father of her daughter Gia (Janet Margolin, Last Embrace). But now the 23rd Regiment is hosting a 20-year reunion in San Forino and all three "fathers" are on their way to town and much to Mrs. Campbell's frantic dismay, her daughter can't wait to meet her real dad! With its excellent cast that includes Telly Savalas, Phil Silvers, Peter Lawford, Shelley Winters and Lee Grant, Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell is fun, friendly and very entertaining comedy that without a doubt was an inspiration for the hit musical, Mama Mia! Expertly directed by the great Melvin Frank (The Court Jester).
