The Singing Sculpture

Runtime: 20
Country: U.S., U.K.

Created in 1967 and performed in '68 and '69, Gilbert & George first conceived of "The Singing Sculpture" primarily due to their lack of a studio. Four years later, the pair brought the piece to America, chosen as the first exhibit to be presented at the Sonnabend Gallery. Their live performance stretched nearly six hours in length, granting the audience the chance to gaze and contemplate the work many times over a single evening. Captured on film by director Philip Haas, THE SINGING SCULPTURE offers contemporary audiences around the world a glimpse into the wild and hilarious night that spawned a cult following.
